Spicy Jjamppong-Style Korean Ramen

An easy Korean ramen upgrade using chili flakes, onion, and bold spicy flavor.

Difficulty: Easy
Time: 10 minutes
Spice Level: Medium
Familiarity: High – similar to spicy noodle soup

Ingredients

  • 1 pack Shin Ramen or Jin Ramen
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 1 tsp korean chili flakes (gochuragu)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • Water (about 1/2 cup more than package)

Instructions

Step 1

Step 1: Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Before the oil gets too hot, add the seafood (or meat). This helps prevent oil from splattering. Then add the sliced onion and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 2

Add the ramen soup base, korean chili flakes, and soy sauce. Stir everything together and cook until the onions soften and release their aroma.

Step 3

Add water, about 1/2 cup more than the amount recommended on the ramen package. Bring to a boil and cook until the noodles are tender.
