The Easiest Korean Steamed Eggs (Gyeran jjim, 계란찜) Ready in 5 Minutes

5-Minute Korean Steamed Eggs (Gyeran jjim, 계란찜)

If you love the fluffy steamed eggs that come with Korean BBQ, you're going to love this recipe. This is hands down the easiest way to make Korean steamed eggs, and honestly, I don't think it can get any simpler.

In just 5 minutes, you'll have soft, fluffy Korean steamed eggs that taste just like the ones served as a side dish at Korean BBQ restaurants.

In Korea, they're most commonly served as a side dish with rice, but I also love making them as a quick breakfast on their own. They're light, satisfying, packed with protein, and so easy that you'll want to make them again and again.

Cooking Tips

  • Use the right amount of water.
A large egg is about 50 ml, so use about 100 ml (just under 4 oz) of hot water per egg. Since egg sizes vary, using twice the volume of the beaten eggs is the most accurate method. If you have a Pyrex measuring cup, it's the easiest way to measure the egg mixture and add exactly twice as much hot water.
  • Microwave in intervals.
To help prevent the egg mixture from overflowing, microwave it in two stages (1 minute, then 1 minute 30 seconds) instead of cooking it all at once. The bowl and steam will be very hot when you remove it, so use oven mitts or a kitchen towel and handle it carefully.
